This Privacy Policy describes how our private initiative Viva Kigali collects, uses, and discloses users information when they use the Viva Kigali mobile application (the "App") and its related web application (the "Website"). The App and Website are collectively referred to as the "Services". Your privacy is of utmost importance to us, and we are committed to protecting it.
By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in a few different ways to provide and improve our Services.
2.1. Information You Provide to Us
When you create an account through our App, we collect the following personal information:
- Username, Email, and Phone Number: To create and manage your account, identify you, and communicate with you about your tickets and our Services.
- Password: We collect your password to secure your account. Passwords are never stored in plain text; they are always encrypted using strong, one-way hashing algorithms.
- Address: We may collect your address to provide location-based event recommendations.
2.2. Purchases and Redirection to Our Website
To purchase a ticket, the App will redirect you to our secure Website to complete the transaction. The App itself does not collect, process, or store your full credit card number or other sensitive financial details.
For any payment, transactions are handled exclusively on a third-party Website, Irembo Pay. When you are redirected for payment, you are subject to the privacy policies of our Website and Irembo Pay's. We receive transaction confirmation data (such as the purchase amount and time) from our Website to confirm your ticket and deliver the digital copy in your account within the App.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for various purposes, including:
- Provide, operate, and maintain our Services.
- Create and manage your account.
- Send your digital ticket, confirmations, and customer service communications.
- Communicate with you about event updates, promotions, and other news (you can opt-out of marketing communications).
- Improve and personalize the App by understanding how users interact with it.
- Ensure the security of our platform and prevent fraud.
- Comply with legal obligations under Rwandan law.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it in the following limited circumstances:
- Event Organizers: When you receive your digital ticket via our Website, we may share necessary information (such as your name) with the Event Organizer to allow them to validate your ticket and manage event entry.
- Web Application and Payment Processors: To complete a purchase, our App and website redirects you to the third party. Information required for the transaction is collected on the Website and shared with our payment processor, Irembo Pay, to process your payment. The App does not directly share your payment information with any third party.
- Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities in Rwanda.
5. Data Security
We implement a variety of technical and organizational security measures to protect the safety of your personal information. We use encryption (such as SSL) and secure servers. However, no electronic transmission or storage method is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Your Data Rights
In accordance with applicable law in Rwanda, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- The right to access: You can request copies of your personal data.
- The right to rectification: You can request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate or complete information you believe is incomplete.
- The right to erasure: You can request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to object to processing: You can object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

Our Services are not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from a child without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.
